Crafting Home
Beyond brick and mortar, what does it take to craft a home? Home can be a sanctuary that offers refuge from the world, a place that holds our precious memories, or a space that welcomes those we love. The interior spaces of the home set the stage for acts of gathering, nourishing, resting, and contemplating. Every object there plays its part and has its own history. From quilts to dishware to custom furniture, Crafting Home celebrates the form and function of everyday household objects. It features over thirty artists from around the country, including several from our own Chautauqua community, who craft the creature comforts that make a house a home. Their contemporary craft is informed by historical traditions of making through a broad range of technical acumen. At the same time, each brings their own perspectives based on individual experiences of home, place making, and the importance of handmade objects. You will encounter their work in a series of vignettes – kitchen, dining, living, and bedroom – allowing you to experience the joy of living with these works of art in your own home.
