Description

My work is innately autobiographical, exploring the intersectionality of my experiences from childhood in rural, conservative, Pentecostal America to my journey of embracing my queerness and investigating spirituality while living abroad to my recovery from trauma and my discovery of what it means to be human in our natural world. Through a multi-disciplinary practice, currently centered on ceramics, I look to use my life as a lens to explore both my external and internal circumstances to display intricate truths I have discovered about human nature and illuminate its beautiful and grotesque complexities from my personal memories. My current work uses nature, symbolism, pattern, and functional form to reflect autobiographical moments of change, growth, and catalytic shifts within my story as an investigation of the complexities that exist in our human selves.

My functional ceramic work combines these overarching concepts with design, craft, and tactile use. I focus on works that are both designed with the user in mind, while working to push craft and design. The RIBBED Collection itself was designed from the joy and pleasure drinking from a handmade mug or eating from handmade plates that initially drew me to ceramics. The RIBBED collection came from the desire to provide others with that same feeling through my ceramic pieces while further elevating the tactile experience of the vessel with the textural design of the vessel and queering design to personalize its uniqueness. At its core, I design function work with your joy and pleasure in mind.
