Description
The inclusion of color as an accent to the steel is a primary objective in their work. Sachi finds visual inspiration from a variety of different aesthetics, such as Soviet cement structures, Prairie house architecture, craftsmen furniture, Persian rug patterns and motifs, and Talavera tile designs. Their mother is Persian and they grew up in the visually saturated and ethnically diverse landscape that is southern California. When they were young, their father worked as an antique dealer and in furniture restoration, often toting baby Sachi around to auctions and warehouses. Stickley furniture was a household name, and whether or not such influence translates, it has heavily impacted the evolution of their work and style and direction.About this Artist

Sachi Nasatir
Sachi Nasatir is a certified welder with a degree in blacksmithing from Austin Community College. They have been working with metal for about eleven years, and currently run their own metal working business called Sachi Metals, based in New Orleans, LA, which focuses primarily on lighting and kitchen designs. They have completed residencies at Center for Metal Arts, as well as received grants from the Society of Inclusive Blacksmiths, and worked as an assistant teacher for renowned metal workers Erica Moody, Haley Woodward, and Rachel David. With a background in analog photography, architecture, and jewelry making, Sachi’s current work is made using primarily forged steel but also sometimes nonferrous metals. But, instead of identifying solely as one type of maker, Sachi likes to think of forging and welding as just tools in their tool belt, and often creates work using techniques, including but not limited to soldering, brazing, casting, cold…
