Improvising: New Photographs by Julie Blackmon (2021)
This exhibition has been generously sponsored by Jim and Bonnie Gwin.
Improvising features new work by Julie Blackmon, a photographer from Springfield Missouri. Her photographs are inspired by her experiences of growing up in a large family, her current role as both photographer and mother, the timelessness of family dynamics, as well as surviving the pandemic. As the oldest of nine children and the mother of three, Blackmon uses her own family members and household to “move beyond the documentary and to explore the fantastic elements of our everyday lives”.
