Description
As a figurative painter, I’ve chosen the representation of the female form as my primary means of exploring the tension between the seen and the unseen, and its relevance to female identity. I often paint on lace fabric, a symbol of traditional domestic roles and accepted forms of creative expression for women. Lace also serves as a veil to true identity, and subtly references the universal female experience of covering, and cautiously uncovering, parts of the self that may not be readily embraced by the culture. I learned sewing and needlework at an early age, and enjoy incorporating these traditional art forms, pushing them beyond their intended use. A lifelong love of language figures into my current work as well.About this Artist
