Description

Handweaving is a slow, intimate process. This process may appear calm and calculated, but I do not see my materials as passive. As Tim Ingold writes in his essay The Textility of Making, “material can only be followed.” This philosophy guides me in every project, and lets me frame each piece as an experiment in terms of pattern, materials, and color. "Twins" is a set of curtains woven in doubleweave blocks, the structure I come back to most. It is my first piece utilizing four blocks, which allow a weaver to “draw” more intricate patterns by choosing to raise or lower certain warp colors. Because the structure is doubled, the pieces are reversible. While weaving I was thinking of interior spaces, hidden passageways, and family secrets.
