In 2017, I visited a small town in New Mexico called Truth or Consequences. The town changed its name in the 1950s based on a game show. The game show host proposed whichever town changed its name to “Truth or Consequences”, he would come to do a live show. During my stay there, I had conversations with many residents around three requests/questions: “What do you think about the name of your town?” “Tell me a truth” and “Tell a consequence related to that truth.” Through conversations, we weave out a bitter, sweet, and sometimes absurd story around the little town.
