Description
During early COVID in 2020, since it felt like there wasn’t much inspiration to find (Museums were closed, we couldn’t see friends, etc.), I looked inward and to the past, as many people did. I spent time rewatching movies I associated with my childhood. One of those movies was the Sound of Music, which I used to watch with my Aunt Pris anytime I visited her in Florida. I remember her putting on her slippers and robe, plopping down in her well-loved recliner, and we would play “My Favorite Things” over and over; Julie Andrew’s voice as smooth as honey while building excitement and positivity as the song continued. Focusing on my favorite things in a dark and endless time, this series is a painting per lyric of that song – through a 2020 Tate lens. These two particular pieces on view here are “Raindrops on Roses” and “Bright Copper Kettles.”

Tate Leone
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Tate grew up spending summers in Chautauqua with her grandfather. Working for Chautauqua Institution during summer 2017 was a lovely opportunity to connect with fellow artists and the welcoming Chautauqua community while exploring the beautiful Institution grounds. She has a BFA in Fine Art from Carnegie Mellon University and an Associates in Textiles from the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York. She studied at the University of Pittsburgh, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Chelsea College of Art, University of the Arts London. While living in New York City, Tate created original print and textile artwork, color design, graphics, and product packaging for Marc Jacobs, Coach 1941, Victoria’s Secret Lingerie, Roller Rabbit, and Anthropologie.
