Description
Sutherland began working in glass in 2009. Central to her practice is a long-standing interest in the bond between people and place. Her current body of work uses perspective drawing as a tool to contemplate and communicate feelings of detachment from place through suggesting spatial experiences that are inaccessible and unreachable. In the autumn of 2018, Sutherland spent a transformative period of time as artist-in-residence at Toyama Institute of Glass Art. Emerging in response to her longing for Japan upon returning home to Scotland, Artist’s Residence, Toyama (1) and (2) are influenced by the sensitivity of the Japanese aesthetic, particularly in relation to light and shadow.About this Artist
