Description

A lot of “visual art” is only available to us visually. The “do not touch” signs in art galleries serve a purpose – mostly to preserve the artwork from damage. But so much of the art could be appreciated more if we could touch it, interact with it, and feel it. Quilts allow us to do all that! They are both visually appealing while also serving utilitarian purposes – like providing warmth. I was especially drawn to quilting because it is art that is not static on a fixed wall, but it can be moved, touched and explored with more than our sense of sight. Like many other works of art, quilts can evoke emotion – and specifically joy. My quilts tend to lean towards saturated, joyful colors. Lastly, handmade quilts created with quality designer fabrics will outlast generations, and can become cherished family heirlooms. I hope my quilts bring you as much joy in experiencing them as I did while creating them. Touching of my art quilts by gallery visitors is highly encouraged!

Amit especially enjoys a quilting technique called “thread painting” that allows the quilter to “paint” over a quilt using one or more thread colors (see “Here Comes the Sun” for an example). He also creates custom quilting patterns to highlight the features of the quilt (see top quilting and thread color changes in “Dreaming of Blue Waves”). He especially enjoys working with…
