Description

My work exists at the intersection of utility and expression. I create functional furniture and objects not only to serve a purpose in daily life, but also to provoke reflections on the relationship between people and the objects they live with. Pieces that serve a need but also open the doors for connection—between the user, the object, and the space it inhabits. This focus strives to bring awareness to the ways in which humans engage with their environments.

Guided by a curiosity of nature, inspiration is drawn from natural forms and patterns. The organic materials used are chosen for their narrative and durability. Wood that carries memory in its grain, metals that age with character, textiles that invite touch, blurring the line between traditional craft and fine art through their historical and interactive circumstances. Each piece designed is a study in balance between form and function, tradition and innovation, permanence and adaptability.

In a world of mass production and disposability, I make objects that stand as a quiet argument for intentional living—where even the most functional object can be art.

About this Artist

Hannah Durham

Hannah Durham

Hannah is a furniture maker and craftswoman based in Asheville, North Carolina. Raised in a small mountain town outside of Asheville she lived in close connection to nature. After years of traveling, living, and expanding her understanding of the world she moved back to western North Carolina and received a BFA in Sculpture from the University of North Carolina Asheville in 2023. Post graduation, she worked for Kidwell Fabrications in Portland, Maine. Driven by a love of textures, function, and working with her hands, her work places focus on the relationships we cultivate around the objects in our homes. She and her husband now live in their hometown in Madison County, North Carolina. She currently makes custom work in the Grovewood Studios in North Asheville. The landscape of Southern Appalachia serves as the medium for both her work, life, and its inspiration.
