Description
My work explores paradise as both a religious concept of an idealized space and landscape of my homeland; through the lens of a non-traditional conservative black Caribbean female. There is a continuous dialogue between the figures and the paradise it’s submerged within. This self-portrait is inspired by the painting titled ‘Dark Girl” 1937 by Prudence Heward. It examines the meaning of being a black female artist in a historically white male dominated field. This painting is part of a triptych completed in my BFA studies.About this Artist
