Description

This quilt was co-created by Chautauqua friends who came to my home and used objects from my garden to create shadows on Cyanotype fabric by exposing pre-treated fabric to sunlight. The shadows result in the light blue colors while the fully exposed fabric results in the darker blues. I especially enjoy creating art in community and am grateful for my Chautauqua Institution friends who participated in the making of the fabric designs. Subsequently, I assembled the quilt by stitching the top together, and the quilt was finished in 2025 when I "longarmed" the top, batting and backing together. The quilting design is falling leaves which aligns with the garden theme. This truly is an art quilt and could easily become a unique, focal point for any bedroom!

Amit Taneja

Amit Taneja is a modern quilter who combines traditional quilting techniques with a modern aesthetic. Amit especially enjoys a quilting technique called “thread painting” that allows the quilter to “paint” over a quilt using one or more thread colors (see “Here Comes the Sun” for an example). He also creates custom quilting patterns to highlight the features of the quilt (see top quilting and thread color changes in “Dreaming of Blue Waves”). He especially enjoys working with…
