Description
“Real gold does not fear the test of fire” is a Chinese proverb that means something authentic or genuine will not be affected by criticism, or that a person of integrity can stand severe tests. A similar phrase in the bible ( 1 peter 1:7), “ the true gold must walk through the fire,” compares the testing of faith to the purification of gold through fire. The verse suggests that faith is more valuable that gold, and that when faith remains strong through trials, we are rewarded.
Seeking to transcribe the hardiness of life, Li Seagren created this series of floral paintings titled Flame. In most of the paintings, the flowers are withstanding the bright orange flames. In some paintings, petals of the flowers move like flames, full of vitality but still delicate and sensitive to the world around them. This concept of balance between opposing forces, known as Yi Yang, is also reflected in the ethereal backgrounds of each piece.
