Sutherland began working in glass in 2009.  Central to her practice is a long-standing interest in the bond between people and place.  Her current body of work uses perspective drawing as a tool to contemplate and communicate feelings of detachment from place through suggesting spatial experiences that are inaccessible and unreachable.  In the autumn of 2018, Sutherland spent a transformative period of time as artist-in-residence at Toyama Institute of Glass Art.
