Gallery Talk with Gabe Brown & Donté Hayes

Gallery Talk and Q&A with exhibiting artists Donté Hayes and Gabe Brown. Please join us for a discussion in the gallery among exhibiting artists Donté Hayes and Gabe Brown joined by co-curators Judie Barie and Erika Diamond. They will briefly discuss the exhibition “In Conversation” and answer questions from the audience.

Gabe Brown holds her BFA degree from The Cooper Union in New York City and an MFA degree in Painting from the University of California, Davis. Brown is a 2018 recipient of a NYFA Fellowship in Painting, a Sustainable Arts Foundation Award, and one of two artists chosen to be included in a public arts project for ArtsBridge. She has been a resident fellow at The Saltonstall Foundation, Anderson Center at Tower View, and Women’s Studio Workshop. Her paintings and works on paper have been exhibited nationally in galleries and museums such as
Kenise Barnes Fine Art, Sears-Peyton Gallery, Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, Zinc Contemporary, Adah Rose Gallery, The Saratoga Arts Center, Garrison Arts Center, John Davis Gallery, Arts Westchester, Schweinfurth Arts Center, SUNY Brockport, The Horticultural Society of New York, Albany International Airport, and Carrie Haddad Gallery. Her work is included in both public and private collections. Gabe Brown lives and works on a sustainable farm in the Hudson Valley. She is an Adjunct Professor in Painting and Drawing at Fordham University.

Donté K. Hayes graduated summa cum laude from Kennesaw State University with a BFA in Ceramics and Printmaking with an art history minor. Donté received his MFA and MA with honors from the University of Iowa and is the 2017 recipient of the University of Iowa Arts Fellowship. Recent art exhibitions include groups shows at Trout Museum of Art, Newark Museum of Art, and the 2021 Atlanta Biennial at the Atlanta Contemporary in Georgia. His artwork has been presented at 1-54 art fair, Design Miami, and a solo presentation at the 2021 Armory Show. Hayes work is included in the permanent collections of the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, Gibbes Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Newark Museum of Art, Wellin Museum of Art, Stanley Museum of Art, Des Moines Art Center, and Institute Museum of Ghana, among others. Donté was awarded a prestigious Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Biennial Grant Award in 2022. He is also a 2019 Ceramics Monthly Magazine Emerging Artists and Artaxis Fellow. Hayes has been in residence at MacDowell, Bemis Center, Township 10, Penland School of Craft, Hambidge Center, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts. Donté is the Grand Prize winner of the “Coined in the South: 2022” exhibition at the Mint Museum. He is also the 2019 winner of the 1858 Prize for Contemporary Southern art from the Gibbes Museum of Art. Donté K. Hayes is represented by Mindy Solomon Gallery in Miami, Florida.
