Lexie Loader is a Painter and Educator based in Plymouth, California. A small town in the foothills of Northern California near where she grew up. Her work focuses on the relationship we have with memories, places and objects. She paints familiar moments in time that might otherwise be overlooked, yet to her they represent much larger ideas of home, connection and the human condition. Her work brings the mundane and ordinary to life with the deep reverence she gives to the objects and spaces that she paints.

Loader received her BFA from the Academy of Art University inSan Francisco in 2017 and her MFA from the University of Montana in 2021. During her MFA is where she committed herself to painting interiors from close observation. Working in thin layers, staining the surface of her paintings with methodical layers and marks, never covering up the layer before, but letting the layers remain slightly unresolved and exposed. Allowing the pencil marks of her drawing, or writings show through the paint. She works from close observation, often measuring and re measuring until she gets things ‘just right’ in her signature perspective, that is slightly off.. Making her paintings representational and less photo realistic. The shifting focus reflects the way memory functions, allowing areas of blur and softness next to sharp and distinct marks. She often works in a high-key color palette; these brighter colors create quiet tension, implying happiness while something remains unresolved, allowing joy and sorrow to coexist within the same space. It's the forever pairing of the light and dark, the warm and cool, the bitter and sweet that she is interested in conveying through painting.
